LPHS XC Notes 10/29/2011
The Boys and Girls finished out their very successful 2011 season Saturday at the State Sectional meet.
The Boys finished one of the most successful seasons ever by an LP XC team, only the 2005 team fared better than this year’s team, led again by SR Andrew Zotti and Robert Rose. JR Jasper Acosta joins the elite sub 17min group by running a fast 16:49. The three sophomores of Michael Stubna and Michael Lally and Arseniy Minaov rounded out the top 6.
Both teams are still loaded for next season! Look out 2012!
State Regional Meet, Washington Park
Both Girls and Boys teams advance to the State Sectional meet next Saturday at Niles West HS.
The boys were led by SR. Andrew Zotti and JR. Jasper Acosta. Zotti is shooting for the 16:00 barrier for his 3mile race at Sectionals. Only one runner in LPHS history has done this. Greg Jones who holds the school record of 15:47 which he set in 2003 at the Section meet at Niles West.
LPHS Cross Country Comes up Big at City Championships.
Over the last 5 years the City XC scene has started getting better and bigger. Today at Washington Park it was no different. The fields were the biggest to date and the competition was faster than ever.
Boys Varsity hit their preseason goal of top 5 in the City!
Just nearly ousting rivals Payton by only 1 point to secure a 5th place. SR Andrew Zotti led the charge with all city honors with a 16th place finish as well as a personal best of 16:18. Robert Rose also had a nice race with a 25th place finish. The two seniors were closely followed by SO Michael Stubna, JR Jasper Acosta, SO Michael Lally and JR Roger Mei.
Boys Fro/Sop had a nice day by placing 9th.
The boys were led by FR. Raymond Jurkewicz and So Josh Reynolds. SO Yair Roman, FR Moses lee and FR Judson smith rounded out the team.
SR Elad Dyess-Yeilehy and JR Brian Lozado also competed in the Open division.
Cross Country team comes up big at the “ Latin Prep Classic”. The race was held 10-6 at our home course in the park by the zoo.
The Day was started off fast for us with SO. Michael Lally destroying the field in the Fro/Soph race. He wins by a margin of 22 seconds with a fast 11:00 for the 2 mile distance.
The Girls Fro/Soph kept it rolling with a great 2nd place showing from SO Sarah Mythen as she runs a personal best of 14:06!
Boys Varsity keep the best season in LP history rolling with a 3rd place finish and without our number 2 runner Robert Rose. The team was led by Andrew Zotti’s 6th place finish and Michael Stubna’s 10th place.
Sarah Lee also places 10th in the competitive Girls Varsity race.
Congrats to all LP runners!
Congratulations to Sophomore Michael Stubna .
On Saturday 9/24 Michael won the Freshman/Sophomore race at the Whitney Young Invite. Michael battled over 150 other runners and ran his best time of the season with a fast 16:44. Michael is only 4 seconds away from breaking the LPHS sophomore record held by Derek Schnake back in 2005. Also in his race Michael Lally and Arseniy Milanov ran extremely well, both placing in the top 15.
LP Boys team placed 5th in this race out of 22 teams.
Boys Varsity also came away with some fast times and medals. Senior Andrew Zotti placed 9th with his best time of the season, 16:19. Robert Rose also a senior ran his best time of the season (16:26) with a 13th place finish. There were 161 runners in the field.
Congratulations to all Lion runners! Next meet is October 1, at Montrose Harbor. The Loyola Lakefront Invitational. 10:00am
Boys and Girls teams kicked off the season on 9/10 at the Highly competitive Lake Park Invite.
On the Girls team newcomer Sophmore Dena Arizanovska really makes her presence known as she runs a solid 14:40 in her 2 mile race.
On the boys side Sophomore Michael Stubna runs the fastest time by an LP sophomore ever at Lake Park with a fast 16:48 and is only 7 seconds off the sophomore school record .
In this varsity race of over 200 runners there were only 7 underclassmen in front of Michael to put his performance into perspective.
9/14 The Girls team ran at the Tough Lane Tech invite course. Hills and tight trails added with over 200 runners makes this race very exciting and tough. Dena Arizanovska comes on strong again this time with a 20th overall performance. Senior and 4 year runner Chloe Daniel and Senior runner Marie Mangenast also perform very well.
9/17 Boys team run the “ Richard spring Invite in Peoria. This is the state meet course and is known for its fast times and huge fields. In the boys Varsity race they were racing with over 500 runners. Senior and number one runner Andrew Zotti performs very well with a Personal record of 16:30. Our top 5 runners of Zotti, Michale lally, Michael Stubna, Robert Rose and jasper Acosta run an average of 17:07 for 3 miles. This is the best average ever by and LP team this early in the season.
