November 16, 2007 - Lincoln Park vs. Crane
What happens when a Lady Lion meets a Lady Cougar?  One big cat fight.  A fight was on Friday November 16.  When visiting, Crane came inot the Lion den of Lincoln Park.  L.P. showed it's claws from the open tip, as Sr. Center, Jasmine Willet, tapped the ball to Jr. Forward, Wessie Johnson, for a short baseline jumper, 2-0.  Before Crane knew it, the score was 6-0.  Time out.  Crane made their run and got back into the game witha  10-0 run, at one point leading 20 to 10.  The Queen of the Jungle regrouped and made a run of their own to tie the game 22-22.
The second half was a back and forward battle.  The Lady Lions with some good defense held Crane in check and pulled away int he final minutes of the game to win by 5.  The final score was 45-40.
The Lady Lions was led by Sr. Jasmine Willet, who poured in a career high of 12 pts, 2 block shots, and 5 rebounds.  Also contributing, was Jr. Point Guard, Derika Robinson, with 12 pts and 6 assists.  Derika lead the team in their home opener for the 2007-2008 Season.

Latin Thanksgiving Tournament
- The first opponent in the Latin Tournament was Ridgewood High School from the Metro Suburban Conference.  After a very slow first half, the Lady Lions got their blood flowing and took a commanding lead by 10 pts.  Going into the 4th quarter, with some hard man to man defense, Lincoln Park pull away and increase their lead by 15 pts.  Two new Lady Lions step up to lead the way in scoring;  Soph. Guard, Tanisha McTiller, with 12 pts.  And Sr. Guard, Nitara Williams, with 10 pts.  Final Score:  LP 48 - Ridgewood 30.

- Our second game in the tournament was against Michele Clark of the Windy City West Conference.  Clark was the second team from highly ranked conference to face the Lady Lions and fall tot he score of L.P. 51 to Clark 39.  Soph. Guard, Tanisha McTiller led all players with 13 pts, teammate Wessie Johnson added 9 pts.
This win set up the match with the host school Latin for the title.  The game was a nip/tuck battle with both teams not giving any inch either way.  In the middle of the second quarter off the bench, Sr. Guard, Nitara Williams gave L.P. the momentum that carried over into the last quarter.  With 2:20 left in the game, L.P. went into a spread offensive to secure a hold on the lead to win 42 to 38.  Top scorers were Tanisha McTiller with 14 pts and Nitara Williams with 11 pts.  Lenora Thomas helped out with 8 pts and 6 rebounds.
 
Lincoln Park vs. Steinmetz
After a good pre-season start (4-0), which include title game of the Latin Thanksgiving Tournament, we open the season on the road against Steinmetz.  With a half time lead, 20 to 9, the Lady Lions went on a run to close the third quarter 29 to 15.  Lincoln Park only allowed Steinmetz 4 pts to finish the game 45 to 19.  Leading all scorers was Soph. Tanisha McTiller, with 16 pts and 7 assists.  Newcomer, Fresh. Tashea Smalls, added 9 pts. (1-0).  The Lady Lions will be on the road for the next four games.  Next up is Schurz (Nov 30) and on Dec. 3, L.P. visits Walter Payton, this is a must see game.  The claws will come out!!! 
 
The J.V. has a winning record too!!! (2-0) beating Crane and Steinmetz!!
 
Lincoln Park vs. Schurz
We are now 6-0 with today's win over Schurz on Nov 30. The Lady Lions came out slow in the first half with the score 24 to 5. But after a lets go speech by Coach Washington, the Lions went on a fast and hard run to finish the game (64-14). Jr. Guard, Ashley Wilkins led all efforts with 13 pts., 5 steals and 3 assists. Getting help from Jr. Forward, Wessie Johnson, adding 13 pts. of her own and 5 rebounds. Next up is a team that the Lady Lions have little love for, Walter Payton, which is is next Monday at 4:00 p.m.
 
L.P.'s record is now 9-1 overall and 5-0 for the conference.
 
Another Lady Lions Update
The Lady Lions are undefeated in conference play.(8-0) and 12-1 overall. We are asking the student body and faculty to come out and support us during the X-Mas break. We are playing in the Board of Education X-Mas Girls basketball Tournament to be held at Simeon H.S. Dec 26, 27, 28,. Our first game will be on Dec 26 at 6:00p vs South Shore H.S.

Our first game was against South Shore H.S. Like so many other games, Lincoln Park took an early lead in the first quarter 10 to 4. L.P. never was a threat, as they cruised to an 54 to 25 win. Three players hit double figures: Nitara Williams, Wessie Johnson and Tanisha McTiller (5 assists), all have 10 pts each to lead the Lions in their first win in the tournament.
Next up is a rematch with Crane. The two teams played earlier in a preseason game at Lincoln Park on Nov. 16. Lincoln Park won that game by the score of 45 to 40.
 
On a separate note: Lincoln Park is 15-2 (10-0)
 
Girls City Playoffs - Wednesday Jan. 23
Showtime........ Showtime...... No.... it's game time - Girls City Playoffs - Wednesday Jan. 23.  Who's the biggest and baddest Cat in the Basketball jungle, Lincoln Park takes on Crane Cougars in the first round of the city playoffs.  The game will be at Crane H.S. at 4:00 p.m.  This is the 3rd game between the two teams this year.  Each team has won one game each.  Come out and Support your Lions.
 
The Girls Varsity Basketball Team finished the season in conference play 14-0.  19-2 overall.  The Lady Lions are the Chicago North Sectional Winner and will be moving up to the Windy City North next season.  They will be in the same top division with the likes of Marshall, Whitney Young and Von Steuben, Hope and Simeon. 
 
1st Round of the City Playoffs - Jan. 23
Lincoln Park drew Crane in the first round of the City Playoffs on Jan. 23.  This was the 3rd game between the two teams this season, with each team winning one.  Crane took the early lead and finished the half with an 8 pt. lead over the Lions, 25-17.  Lincoln Park came out in the 3rd quarter with an renewal aspirit and tied the game 3 minutes in the third, 28-28.  The score sea-sawed back and forth until the LIons took control of the game iwth an 49-43 lead.  Sr. Nitara Williams made 4 free throws and Soph. Tanish McTiller, added 4 more free throws of her own as Crane used the foul tactic to stay alive.  L.P. closed out the game on a missed free throw with Jr. Wessie Johnson rebounding the ball with 8 seconds left to kill the clock. 
Next Up, Whitney Young - Monday, Jan. 28 at Whitney Young.  Be There, you may be surprised!! 
Top Players - Nitara Williams with 14 pts. and Tanisha McTiller with 16 pts and 5 steals.
Wessie Johnson chipped in 7 pts. and Lenora Thompson with 6 pts. and 7 block shots.
Final Score:  L.P. 51 to Crane 48
 
State Playoff Game
The Lady Lions are having their first State Playoff Game, Tuesday, February 12th, at Queen of Peace at 8:00 p.m.  They will play Queen of Peace in their own gym, wish them luck!!  If they win against Queen of Peace, their next game will be Thursday against Bogan.
