Lincoln Park High School’s AP US history students, guided by teachers Matt Francolino, Sandra Koehler and Carolyn Latshaw are honored to participate in the Chicago Metro History Fair this school year. Despite the challenges of remote learning, this curriculum team and their students advanced 28 student projects to the Chicago Regional Competition. 25 of those projects, from LP, are advancing to the City competition this week!
History Fair captures the essence of what makes history the transformative and empowering experience that it ought to be for all students. History Fair is a project-based inquiry program that challenges students to become historians by actually “doing” history. Students chose their own topics connected to Illinois history and this year’s theme (Communication in History). Students researched, analyzed sources, made an argument, and finally, produced a project to showcase their work. Lincoln Park High School’s History Department has been sending students to the National Competition for over 25 years.
Our students made websites, documentaries, and wrote papers, and are evaluated at annual competitions in the Chicago metro area. This rewarding program prepares our students for the rigors of higher education and empowers them to be active and engaged citizens in history.
Congratulations to the following Lincoln Park HS students and their teachers! Good Luck at City Finals!
