State Seal of Biliteracy

 
  1. Biliteracy is the ability to comprehend, speak, read and write in two languages at a proficient level.
  2. The State Seal of Biliteracy is a recognition given to high school seniors who have studied and can exhibit the ability to communicate in two or more languages (including English) by the spring of their senior year of high school.
  3. The Seal serves as a statement of accomplishment for college admission and future employment.
  1. The State Seal of Biliteracy is intended for all high school seniors who have mastered standard academic English (through either their SAT or ACCESS scores) and any other language. 
  1. State Seal of Biliteracy recipients can receive college credit at any of the state of Illinois 12 public universities.
  2. A distinction on your final high school transcript, so you can be recognized for life for your bilingual skills whether you utilize the transcript for college admissions or employment.
  3. The actual State Seal will be placed on your high school diploma.
